Two Winters in A Row

What else can you take from me?

I have nothing more to give

I only have my self

and I cannot always be held captive.

I want to believe in romantic love

while laying in the meadow watching the stars above

sharing a blanket thats big enough for two

like a magic carpet it will me out of the blue.

I know my second winter is more than enough

I’m ready for a warm breeze and to stand tall on the bluff

where I can see the trees and flowers come to bloom

and I can break free from this small enclosed room.

I know it will pass as it always does

and soon my cheeks will feel springs kisses

the sky will open up and the sun will shine bright

and I’ll forget about these cold hard days of twilight.

Looking to the Bright Side

I have to look on the bright side

to think of the good things in my life

for I am healthy and being my best

I know I cannot control the rest

I can just try every day to progress

to feel the love and feel that I am blessed.

I have seen disparity and poverty in other lands

I have seen dishonesty and hatred firsthand

I chose to leave so I could continue to expand

my own horizons even though they are unplanned.

I just know that the storms are almost over

as I start a brand new chapter

of my life as I gain closure

relinquishing any pent up anger

embracing my new future.

Sunny days and blue skies are ahead

I am trading them for the rain and thunder instead

So I can feel the love surround my heart and my head

because I have to enjoy this life before I am dead.

TRT – Blue Turtle Seduction lyrics

Talking about the ways of an ever-dancing child,
Inspiration pouring down the timeless river nile.
It starts at the source, a course that comes from within,
Waterfalling from the heart to the valley of the pen.
It pours to the people, the ones that want to hear,
Come down to the river for the time is coming near.
To open up the door to what your waiting for,
Oh what the hell, image doesn’t matter anymore.
It’s a musical explosion passing on it’s seeds,
To all nationalities, colors, and creeds.

Now it comes easy, just a matter of releasing,
Taking a jump from the ship of dignity, into a sea of eternity.

It’s a dance that we do, to the movement of the stars,
Traveling miles without the use of cars.
Fourth-dimensionality, moving as a wave,
Passing through the people, all the people say Hey!
Yes, can we dance to the flames of a fire,
Oh can our voices rise higher and higher?
Out of time, out of mind, only in the now,
Don’t bother asking why, cause we’re going to show you how.
What I’m talking about is not some luxury vacation,
Just a lesson in the one and only, positive vibration!

Uniquely we journey through a higher space,
Subsequently sending peace to our race.
Millenium magic shining in the night,
Right before your eyes and then flashing out of sight.
What’s that you say, Can you explain it a little more?
About this game that we are playing where no one’s keeping score.
Well life is the game and the journey is the board,
Breath is our peace and the lion is our roar!
The sea just bubbles as the stars begin to fall,
While islands of laughter just echo down the hall.
It’s the absence of judgment, but not the lack of choice.
Talkin about another way to utilize your voice.
The power of the people, the one’s that speak as one,
The movement of the masses going to outpower any gun.
Love is our sword and we strike it all around,
To anybody open to this hip vibration sound.
We move as a tribe, as we dance in the field,
Singing, Hallelujah to that ever sacred seal.
That binds us together to make a solid chain,
you and me, him and her, we’re all just the same.

Random Notes on a New Year’s Morning

Random Notes scribed in my journal on a New Year’s Morning somewhere near Santa Cruz:

Be in the place where you can see the most blue skies… where you can get lost in the clouds.

Blue skies like when you are in love…

BE where you feel the most love!

IT all relates to following your bliss, do what makes you happiest and brings you love!

It’s all about the love in all things…

IT should come naturally!

You know you are in your right place when you aren’t wearing any masks and your arms are open and you’re embracing your surrounding space…

Choose the best! The best that fits you so you can be your very best you… where you understand… know the truth, be honest!

Always strive for truth… that IS the truth!

Wind blows, clouds swirl, sun casts rainbows, twists and turns, rolls and expands, dissipates and moves along.

“treading uphill in a slippery bag trying to find my shoes”

I love the warm winter sun on my cheek.

I’ve missed the great and expansive Pacific Ocean… I love California and it’s majestic and diverse coast…

I am blessed and thoroughly grateful to be here.

Finding the Place

Need to spend more time

in the sun

with breaths of fresh air

where there’s plenty of space

where noones in a race

except the kids playing on the lawn

or the deer over yonder with her fawn.

maybe not as far as voluntary simplicity

but certainly away from the big city

brief moments and stretches in passing there

but returning back where the focus is care

where love and life thrive with ease

where you feel a caress from the breeze

where life is slower and can be enjoyed

where love and energy are always employed

like waving as you pass along

where it feels so right and you sing a song

a place where everything is fresh

and you feel at your best

where that is common among the rest

downhome love and acceptance

with wider expansions and the will for the present

where being good in all things important

the feelings, not the things ride the current

of now and whats right here

I’m not there right now, but the time is near.

Watch and Learn from the Birds

In a little garden that I was sitting next to this morning I watched a bird gathering twigs to make it’s nest. It was picking them from the ground, recycling nature’s goods to build it’s home. What if we adopted this practice again? If we used the nature’s goods to build our homes, the goods that are naturally available in our surroundings? Instead of making all the homes cookie-cutter McMansions, what if we actually used our natural resources as we found them? So if there isn’t an abundance of 4×4’s in a certain area, but there is a heck of a lot of clay or Pinion Pines, why not construct a house made of that?

We can learn a lot from watching the birds, we just need to pay attention…

Consumption and Bliss?

Joseph Campbell says that we should “Follow Your Bliss”. He is right. Finding what makes us happy and going for it sounds like a pretty simple idea, right? If it is so simple, why are so many of us just trying to be like one another? Why are so many of us unhappy, overweight, stressed out, overworked and in debt? Why is it so hard to do what makes us happy?

We are so consumed with the idea that we need to be the best at everything we do. We consume everything in major quantities. Spending money, mostly that we don’t even have, unnecessarily in order to make us happy, which never really happens and further fuels the cycle of wanton consumption. We are so obsessed with keeping up with the Jones’s that we lose focus and sight of our own personal wants and needs. We are a media ruled society and believe most of what we see… but that isn’t the reality, not for everyone.

We want to earn the most amount of money in the shortest amount of time. We want everything right now and do not know what it means to work, to really work for something any more. We are so lost that, of course, we cannot say that we generally follow our bliss. When we never take the time to look inside of ourselves, to find out what really makes us tick, how can we ever truly know what does make us tick?

Finding Your Passion

Passion is what drives us to do things well, really well. We do our best when we are totally engaged in what we are doing. We always want to do our best, so if that is the truth, then we should always do what we are passionate about. It is interesting that most of my thoughts along this line always head back to “Follow your Bliss” by Joseph Campbell, a great American mystic. This is one of those times.

I saw two great examples of people in action using thier passion to drive them to outdo themselves. The first one was a Badmitton player who was practicing for the big tournament that is being held tonight at the Paulistano Club. He was in the zone. I was walking by and had to stop and watch him. He was so intense, focused and really giving his all to his game. He was totally dressed for the part. He was the oldest of the competitors there, probably in his 50s or so, with a headband, sport goggles, even some kind of patch to help him see better (?) over one eye, a knee brace and new tennis shoes. He was running, sweating and hitting back the birdie every time it came to his court… his passion was unmistakable. I hope he wins tonight, we shall see.

The other was a guest trambone player with Tito Martino Jazz Band, a band that I have been watching every Tuesday Afternoon at the Livaria Cultura on Avenida Paulista since the beginning of the year. He is a tall fellow, I have seen him play a couple of times with them and now that he is a bit more comfortable he just goes for it. He blows that thing with mighty force. He sings the songs right along with Tito, he even does a little dance along with it. He is alive! His enthusiasm and passion draws a great applause each time, creating this great flow of energy which fuels all of us even more. His passion for music and being on stage is unmistakable and you can tell how much he loves it.

Finding and following your passion is everything. First you must figure that out and then the rest can work itself out. Your passion is not going to be the same as everyone else’s, that is why it is our own passion that we must find.

Intellectuals, Obama and the WeatherUnderground

Okay, just a little food for thought… we are who we are and we are never going to be anyone else and can never really know what it is like to be anyone else. I am sure you agree with this line of thought. I am a white American woman, aged 28, who grew up in the center of California in the countryside between two rural towns, went on to join a sorority at Fresno State University but left and dove into mid-level management at the age of 20, lived in national parks for 7 years and then dramatically changed my life and moved to Brazil after falling in love with someone on foreign exchange. My story is completely unique, as your story is completely unique. I have definitely come across a variety of people in my life, but I will never know what it is like to be a man, or to be black, or to be an Ivy League graduate or to be the first black president of the prestigous Harvard Law Review. I don’t know what it is like to grow up in Hawaii. I don’t know what it is like to have a very non-American name. I don’t know what it is like to lack a father figure while growing up with my grandparents.

With that said, I do know what it is like to finally start to see the world and the US for what it is. To finally have that breakthrough moment where you say… humn… things just aren’t right… it doesn’t make me unAmerican, and it doesn’t make me unpatriotic, in fact just the opposite because it drives me to ask questions and to research to find the answers about what we do and why we do it. I feel more American now than I ever did and am grateful for this every day.

I remember watching the WeatherUnderground documentary a few years ago… one of many documentaries I have seen in my adult life and to be quite honest… even though I don’t agree with what they were doing, I understood why they were doing it. There is a big difference. People go about things the way they see best, we always try to do what is right, we try to follow through with our convictions – that is why people join the Armed Forces or join the clergy or go to a University. Everyone has a different and totally unique way of looking at things and working towards their goal. I think above all else, trying to understand the reason of why people do what they do is of the utmost importance. That is where the real answer is, at the root, it always is.

To be able to see things for what they are. To be able to atain a birds eye view is to turn a blizzard into a breeze as they say. To be honest this is why Intellectuals are Intellectuals. Those Intellectuals usually go on to teach in the most prestigious Universities and write books and become successful in the Academic world, this is no coincidence. They have the ability to see beyond what most people see and have revelations and realizations about the things that have always been right in front of us.
